For the DR/4000, DR/5000, AquaTrend and other systems, the effort put into trying out solutions with customers paid off big. We were able to reprioritize and organize features within the instruments to match user needs by getting feedback from representative users.
I defined the interaction designs for these instruments, as well as the goals and protocols for testing those designs. I planned and ran the usability tests, and analyzed the results to optimize the designs. I designed and specified the keyboard for the DR/4000, along with the physical product industrial design. The DR/4000 sold for many years as the top-level spectrophotometer in Hach's product lineup.
